There are moments when the world tries to tell you who you are — and none of it feels right.
In Bohemian Rhapsody, we see Freddie being mocked and rejected before he ever gets a chance to be seen.
A co-worker calls him “Paki.”
A producer sneers at his teeth.
Even his father tries to mold him into someone “proper.”
When I first watched those scenes, I felt that sting.
That feeling of being too much for some and never enough for others.
It’s easy to start believing them. To shrink, to hide, to fit.
But then comes that moment.
Freddie looks up and says:
“I decide who I am. I’m going to be what I was born to be. A performer. Who gives the people what they want.”
While he speaks, the soft piano notes from Runaway by Kanye West play one by one — like hesitation turning into conviction.
The melody feels fragile, almost like he’s convincing himself.
And then… the drop hits.
“Look at ya, look at ya.”
Suddenly the screen explodes with performance clips — the lights, the crowds, the glory.
The same man they once mocked now commands the world’s attention.
That shift is everything.
Because we’ve all been there. Standing in the silence between who we were told to be and who we know we are.
And sometimes, it only takes one decision to bridge that gap.
